On Tuesday, January 8, The Charlotte Planning Department will hold a kick-off meeting for an effort to create a new zoning category for Microbreweries. The purpose of the Stakeholder Group is to get a better understanding of microbreweries as a zoning use and any secondary impacts they may have on residential, retail, industrial or any adjacent uses.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on the 8th Floor of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, at 600 E. Fourth St. in Uptown.
Over the next few months, the group is expected to:
Explore development standards and regulations in other communities.
Explore regulations and guidelines in the districts where alcoholic beverage manufacturing is currently permitted (I-1 and I-2 zoning districts).
Determine if the use is appropriate in other districts.
Drink lots of beer.
OK, so that last point isn’t actually part of the agenda, but here’s hoping!
During the first part of this meeting, staff will provide background information and describe the process that will be used to determine what modifications are needed to the Charlotte Zoning Ordinance for defining a microbrewery. Citizens interested in serving on the citizens advisory group will stay for the second part of the meeting.
