REBIC & the Charlotte 2040 comprehensive plan

what is the charlotte future 2040 comprehensive plan?

Elected leaders are considering a plan that will decide how we grow over the next 20 years—the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive plan.  It’s an important document that impacts us all.  That’s why we have to get it right—now.  We need a plan that ensures access to quality housing that is affordable across all income levels, keeps the unique character of Charlotte, and doesn’t break the bank in the process.

We are at a crossroads, and our elected officials need to adopt a plan that will work for all of our residents, and for generations to come.  Most Charlotte residents are not even aware of the plan—a document that will guide growth for the next two decades.  The current draft of the plan contains policies that could increase the cost of housing and negatively impact small businesses and job creators.  The plan says nothing about how much it would cost and that’s a problem.

REBIC supports the development and adoption of a comprehensive plan.  It’s important for a growing city like Charlotte.  But what we don’t support is the current version that includes policies that make housing less affordable, causes economic strain, and leaves the real estate industry out of the conversation.  We need to get the plan right—before it’s too late.
