Overview:

The Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition (REBIC) is the parent entity of the Shelter Providers Political Action Committee Enterprise (SPPACE). SPPACE is a non-partisan PAC registered with the state of North Carolina.

SPPACE raises money for and contributes money to political candidates who are supportive of continued economic growth and the interests of the real estate and building industry in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.

In addition to fundraising, SPPACE is strongly committed to the education of the voters of Mecklenburg County in order to heighten political awareness in the community. SPPACE annually conducts Candidate Interviews, publishes a Candidate Questionnaire in the Business Journal and on a somewhat less regular basis, holds Candidate Forums.

Why Give to SPPACE?:

Local governments and the General Assembly are constantly considering policies and issues that could dramatically impact (positively or negatively) the real estate industry. For example, the following issues have been under consideration:
  • Smart Growth
  • Tree Ordinances
  • Signage Restrictions
  • Storm Water/Erosion Control Issues
  • Impact Fees
  • Transfer Taxes
  • Urban Growth Boundaries
  • Zoning Ordinance Changes
  • Uniform Development Ordinances
  • Moratoriums
  • APFO's
  • Housing Costs / Benefit Study
  • Subdivision Ordinance Changes
These are only a few of the many issues REBIC monitors and addresses for the Real Estate and Building Industry throughout the year. SPPACE helps to ensure that the views of our industry are heard.

In addition, when the NC General Assembly is in session, Mary Thomsen, REBIC's Executive Director and Director of State Government Relations, is in Raleigh representing REBIC with the legislature.
